Continuity Task - Final Cut

With our final cut we decided to re-film all our scenes as none of them were good enough before. When re-filming our continuity task we looked at all the problems we faced and made sure we saw to the previous problems to make sure our continuity task final cut is majorly better technically. We have included all the shots that we needed to like: shot reverse shot, match on action, pan and tilt shots as well as keeping the 180 degree rule, which we broke in the last cut. In this final cut we also used a variety of other shots like higher and lower angles and had a longer clip and more footage. With our final cut we improved a lot technically and our story even improved.

Overall you have created a competent first attempt that demonstrates a basic ability across the technical areas. You have shown that you have understood SRS well, with match on action executed fairly well. Further consideration on the clipping of the sequence to convey more effectively time passing is needed. The 180 degree rule has been followed and executed well. The fundamental key technical area that needs to be reviewed is your use of camera. In the opening of your sequence you follow the action when a steady camera with the character entering the shot would have been much more effective. What follows in the match on action sequence are you “following” the character, with slight movements of the camera thus hindering the engagement of the sequence. You must consider how you move from shot to shot in the planning stages, albeit with the camera or in post-production. As well as this you need to consider your framing especially at the end during the conversation. Taking your line form the two shot, your characters are almost level-head height-yet as the sequence plays there are inconsistencies evident. However there is a sense of fluidity in the clipping of shots and sequences of shots that flow well across the two conversations. Diegetic sound is executed well, yet maybe some other forms of sound like a sound bridge would have added to you showing your understanding of the technical competencies.
Be sure you use this feedback in your coursework opening title sequence to show progression.
